    Acetylation of histone H3 at lysine 9 (K9) is a mark of active chromatin and appears to have a dominant role in histone deposition and chromatin assembly in some organisms. Increased H3 (acetyl K9) may also reflect a decrease in H3 (methyl K9) associated with gene repression.
