  • Product namehnRNP C1 + C2 protein (Tagged-His Tag)See all hnRNP C1 + C2 proteins and peptides ...
  • Protein descriptionRecombinant fragment, corresponding to amino acids 84-293 (210 amino acids) of Human hnRNP C1 + C2 with N terminal His tag; Predicted MWt 24 kDa (UniProt P07910-2).
  • Expression hostE. coli
  • Properties

  • Purification notesPurity level >85%
This protein was expressed as an N-terminal His-tag fusion protein using Escherichia coli, and purified using Immobilized Metal Ion Affinity Chromatography. In some cases, smaller protein fragments may be present in addition to the intended expression product as a result of premature termination during translation in E. coli and subsequent co-purification via the His-tag. In some cases purified proteins run at a molecular weight different to the theoretically calculated molecular weight. This may be as a result of unequally distributed charges in the amino acid sequence. Alternatively, dimerisation of the expression product can occur under oxygen limitation during expression/cultivation.

  • FunctionBinds pre-mRNA and nucleates the assembly of 40S hnRNP particles. Single HNRNPC tetramers bind 230-240 nucleotides. Trimers of HNRNPC tetramers bind 700 nucleotides. May play a role in the early steps of spliceosome assembly and pre-mRNA splicing. Interacts with poly-U tracts in the 3'-UTR or 5'-UTR of mRNA and modulates the stability and the level of translation of bound mRNA molecules.
  • Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the RRM HNRPC family. RALY subfamily.
Contains 1 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain.
  • Post-translational
    modifications
Phosphorylated on Ser-260 and Ser-299 in resting cells. Phosphorylated on Ser-253 and on 1 serine residue in the poly-Ser stretch at position 238 in response to hydrogen peroxide.
Sumoylated. Sumoylation reduces affinity for mRNA.
  • Cellular localizationNucleus. Component of ribonucleosomes.
