Product overview
Abcam’s BMP7 Human ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human BMP7 in serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants.
This assay employs an antibody specific for Human BMP7 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and BMP7 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated antiHuman BMP7 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of BMP7 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Relevance
Bone Morphogenetic Protein 7 (BMP7), also known as osteogenic protein 1 (OP1), is produced from a DNA sequence encoding the human BMP2 signal peptide and human BMP2 propeptide (amino acid residues 1 to 282) fused to the human BMP7 mature subunit (amino acid residues 293 to 431). Mature human BMP7, generated after the proteolytic removal of the signal peptide and the propeptide, is a disulfide linked homodimeric protein, comprised of two 139 amino acid residue subunits. Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMP) are members of the TGF beta superfamily of cytokines that affect bone and cartilage formation. Similar to other TGF beta family proteins, BMPs are highly conserved across animal species. -
