    Abcam’s IL-16 (Interleukin-16) Human ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human IL-16 in serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants.

    This assay employs an antibody specific for Human IL-16 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and IL-16 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human IL-16 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of IL-16 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Properties

  • FunctionInterleukin-16 stimulates a migratory response in CD4+ lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils. Primes CD4+ T-cells for IL-2 and IL-15 responsiveness. Also induces T-lymphocyte expression of interleukin 2 receptor. Ligand for CD4.
    Isoform 1 may act as a scaffolding protein that anchors ion channels in the membrane.
    Isoform 3 is involved in cell cycle progression in T-cells. Appears to be involved in transcriptional regulation of SKP2 and is probably part of a transcriptional repression complex on the core promoter of the SKP2 gene. May act as a scaffold for GABPB1 (the DNA-binding subunit the GABP transcription factor complex) and HDAC3 thus maintaining transcriptional repression and blocking cell cycle progression in resting T-cells.
  • Tissue specificityIsoform 3 is expressed in hemopoietic tissues, such as resting T-cells, but is undetectable during active T-cell proliferation.
