  • Product overview

Abcam’s Human IL-4 Receptor (IL-4R) in vitro ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of soluble IL-4 receptor molecule (CD124) in Human serum, plasma, buffered solutions or cell culture medium.

A monoclonal antibody specific for IL-4R has been coated onto the wells of the microtiter strips provided. Samples, including standards of known IL-4R concentrations, control specimens or unknowns are pipetted into these wells. During the first incubation, the standards or samples and a biotinylated monoclonal antibody specific for IL-4R are simultaneously incubated. After washing, the enzyme Streptavidin-HRP, that binds the biotinylated antibody is added, incubated and washed. A TMB substrate solution is added which acts on the bound enzyme to induce a colored reaction product. The intensity of this colored product is directly proportional to the concentration of IL-4R present in the samples.

This kit will recognize both endogenous and recombinant Human IL-4R.

  • RelevanceIL4R binds interleukin 4 and interleukin 13 to regulate IgE production. It also can bind interleukin 4 to promote differentiation of Th2 cells. A soluble form of the IL4R can be produced by an alternate splice variant or by proteolysis of the membrane-bound protein, and this soluble form can inhibit IL4-mediated cell proliferation and IL5 upregulation by T-cells. Allelic variations in this gene have been associated with atopy, a condition that can manifest itself as allergic rhinitis, sinusitus, asthma, or eczema. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms, a membrane-bound and a soluble form, have been found for this gene.
  • Cellular localizationCell membrane; single-pass type I membrane protein. Isoform 2: Secreted protein
