    Abcam’s MCP4 (monocyte chemotactic protein 4) Human ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human MCP4 in serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants. (Human MCP4 concentration is pretty low in normal serum/plasma, it may not be detected in this assay).

    This assay employs an antibody specific for Human MCP4 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and MCP4 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human MCP4 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MCP4 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Properties

  • FunctionChemotactic factor that attracts monocytes, lymphocytes, basophils and eosinophils, but not neutrophils. Signals through CCR2B and CCR3 receptors. Plays a role in the accumulation of leukocytes at both sides of allergic and non-allergic inflammation. May be involved in the recruitment of monocytes into the arterial wall during the disease process of atherosclerosis. May play a role in the monocyte attraction in tissues chronically exposed to exogenous pathogens.
  • Tissue specificityWidely expressed. Found in small intestine, thymus, colon, lung, trachea, stomach and lymph node. Low levels seen in the pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells.
