    Abcam’s Neurotrophin 4 Human ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human Neurotrophin 4 in serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants. (Human Neurotrophin 4 concentration is pretty low in normal serum/plasma, it may not be detected in this assay).

    This assay employs an antibody specific for Human Neurotrophin 4 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Neurotrophin 4 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human Neurotrophin 4 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Neurotrophin 4 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

    Defects in NTF4 may be associated with susceptibility to primary open angle glaucoma type 1O (GLC1O) [MIM:613100]. A form of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). POAG is characterized by a specific pattern of optic nerve and visual field defects. The angle of the anterior chamber of the eye is open, and usually the intraocular pressure is increased. The disease is asymptomatic until the late stages, by which time significant and irreversible optic nerve damage has already taken place.
