The SAT2 primers can be used to quantify a control locus in chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays with chromatin prepared from human cells.
The SAT2 primers are specific for a juxtacentromeric satellite 2 repeat on chromosome 1. In most cell types this repeat is heterochromatic and enriched with histone modifications associated with heterochromatin such as Histone H3 K9 tri methylation (see image with ab8898). Whereas it shows low levels of histone modifications associated with active gene transcription such as Histone H3 K4 tri methylation (see image with ab8580).
