Target

  • Function
ICAM proteins are ligands for the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1 (integrin alpha-L/beta-2). During leukocyte trans-endothelial migration, ICAM1 engagement promotes the assembly of endothelial apical cups through ARHGEF26/SGEF and RHOG activation. In case of rhinovirus infection acts as a cellular receptor for the virus.
  • Sequence similarities
Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. ICAM family.
    Contains 5 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains.
  • Post-translational
    modifications
Monoubiquitinated, which is promoted by MARCH9 and leads to endocytosis.
  • Cellular localization
    Membrane.

Images

  • ab196171 staining ICAM1 in Raji cells. The cells were fixed with 80% methanol (5 min) and then incubated in 1%BSA/10% normal goat serum/0.3M glycine in 0.1% PBS-Tween for 1h to permeabilise the cells and block non-specific protein-protein interactions. The cells were then incubated overnight at +4°C with ab196171 at 1/100 dilution (shown in red) and ab195887, Mouse monoclonal to alpha Tubulin (Alexa Fluor® 488), at 1/250 dilution (shown in green). Nuclear DNA was labelled with DAPI (shown in blue).

Image was taken with a confocal microscope (Leica-Microsystems, TCS SP8).
