Product overview
Abcam's Caspase-2 Assay Kit (Colorimetric) provides a simple and convenient means for assaying the activity of caspases that recognize the sequence VDVAD. The assay is based on spectrophotometric detection of the chromophore p-nitroanilide (p-NA) after cleavage from the labeled substrate VDVAD-p-NA. The p-NA light emission can be quantified using a spectrophotometer or a microtiter plate reader at 400- or 405 nm.

Notes
This product is manufactured by BioVision, an Abcam company and was previously called K117 Caspase-2 Colorimetric Assay Kit. K117-100 is the same size as the 100 test size of ab39830.

Research areas
-
Function
Involved in the activation cascade of caspases responsible for apoptosis execution. Might function by either activating some proteins required for cell death or inactivating proteins necessary for cell survival. -
Tissue specificity
Expressed at higher levels in the embryonic lung, liver and kidney than in the heart and brain. In adults, higher level expression is seen in the placenta, lung, kidney, and pancreas than in the heart, brain, liver and skeletal muscle. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the peptidase C14A family.
Contains 1 CARD domain. -
Post-translational
modificationsThe mature protease can process its own propeptide, but not that of other caspases. - Information by UniProt
