Find out more about this exciting new loading control

GAPDH antibody [mAbcam 9484] - Loading Control (ab9484) datasheet

Our new mouse monoclonal antibody to GAPDH joins our existing range of GAPDH loading control antibodies, which includes our goat polyclonal to GAPDH (ab9483) and our bestselling rabbit polyclonal to GAPDH (ab9485).

This new antibody has been tested in a large range of species and performs excellently. It has been shown to cross-react with human, mouse, rat, Xenopus laevis, cow, chicken, dog, pig, rabbit and Chinese hamster. It also produces a single clean band of approximately 36 kDa in western blotting of cell lysates.

Glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a key enzyme involved in glycolysis. Besides its functioning as a glycolytic enzyme in the cytoplasm, recent evidence suggests that mammalian GAPDH is also involved in a great number of intracellular processes such as membrane fusion, microtubule bundling, phosphotransferase activity, nuclear RNA export, DNA replication, and DNA repair. During the 1990's, much research was published concerning the role of GAPDH in various pathologies including prostate cancer progression, programmed neuronal cell death and age-related neuronal diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease.

GAPDH is constitutively expressed in almost all tissues at high levels, which makes it ideal as a loading control in western blotting. Note that some physiological factors, such as hypoxia and diabetes, increase GAPDH expression in certain cell types.
