  • Description
    Mouse monoclonal [0.N.395] to MAP 2a + 2b + 2c
  • SpecificityAb33580 is highly specific to MAP 2a, b and c expressed in dendrites and cell bodies of neurons. It recognizes MAP2a and MAP2b (~280kD doublet) and MAP2c (70kD). It shows no crossreactivity with other MAPs, tau and tubulin.

IHC-FoFr Use a concentration of 1 - 2 µg/ml. Perform heat mediated antigen retrieval before commencing the IHC protocol.
WB Use a concentration of 1 - 2 µg/ml. Predicted molecular weight: 199 kDa.
ICC/IF Use at an assay dependent concentration.

Target

  • FunctionThe exact function of MAP2 is unknown but MAPs may stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. They also seem to have a stiffening effect on microtubules.
  • Sequence similaritiesContains 3 Tau/MAP repeats.
  • Post-translational
    modifications
Phosphorylated at serine residues in K-X-G-S motifs by MAP/microtubule affinity-regulating kinase (MARK1 or MARK2), causing detachment from microtubules, and their disassembly (By similarity). MAP2A/c is phosphorylated. Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR. Isoform MAP2c is phosphorylated by FYN at Tyr-67.
  • Cellular localizationCytoplasm > cytoskeleton.
