    • FunctionThe exact function of MAP2 is unknown but MAPs may stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. They also seem to have a stiffening effect on microtubules.
    • Sequence similaritiesContains 3 Tau/MAP repeats.

      modifications
      Phosphorylated at serine residues in K-X-G-S motifs by MAP/microtubule affinity-regulating kinase (MARK1 or MARK2), causing detachment from microtubules, and their disassembly (By similarity). Isoform 2 is probably phosphorylated by PKA at Ser-323, Ser-354 and Ser-386 and by FYN at Tyr-67.

    Anti-MAP2 antibody [MT-01] images

    • ab7756 at a dilution of 1/1000, staining MAP-2 (Alexa 488 secondary at 1/2000) on rat brain tissue (30µm thick coronal sections) in free floating IHC (see protocol link for detailed description). Images [A] and [B] show labeling of MAP-2 on cortical neuronal processes/axons using a 20x objective. [C] and [D] show labeling of MAP-2 in cortical axons observed with 40x objective. No labeling observed following omission of primary antibody.

      Sections were viewed using an Axioplan 2 Imaging microscope (Imaging Associates) fitted with 10x, 20x and 40x Plan-Neofluorobjectives (Zeiss, Germany) and images were taken using a AxioCam Hrm digital camera (Zeiss, Germany) and AxioVision software (Imaging Associates).

    This antibody reacts with MAP2A and MAP2B form (tested on pig and mouse tissue samples. Reactivity with MAP2D on embryonal tissues has not been tested (reactivity was only tested on mouse cell line P19 in stage of neuronal differentionation). This ant...

    This antibody has been tested and shown to cross react with cat, pig and mouse. Human has not yet been tested. I'll add this information to the datasheet.

    To our knowledge this antibody has yet to be tested in this application. We would welcome any feedback in this respect from researchers who have tried using this product.
