Target

  • Function
    Essential transmembrane GTPase, which mediates mitochondrial fusion. Fusion of mitochondria occurs in many cell types and constitutes an important step in mitochondria morphology, which is balanced between fusion and fission. MFN1 acts independently of the cytoskeleton. Overexpression induces the formation of mitochondrial networks.

    Ubiquitous. Expressed at slightly higher level in kidney and heart. Isoform 2 may be overexpressed in some tumors, such as lung cancers.

    Left panel: 4% milk was used as the blocking agent throughout the western blot. Right panel: 4% milk was used for the initial block and for the secondary antibody incubation, but ab126575 was diluted in Abcam’s Blocking Buffer (ab126587). Note that Anti-Mitofusin 1 antibody is not compatible with dilution in milk blocking buffer.
  • ab126575 at 5 µg/ml (2 hrs) staining Mitofusin 1 in paraformaldehyde fixed (4%, 20 min) and Triton X-100 permeabilized (0.1%, 15min) Mouse embryonic fibroblast cells by Immunofluorescence. Secondary: 1/2000 AlexaFluor® 488 goat anti-mouse IgG (H+L). DAPI was used to stain the cell nuclei (blue). Abcam Blocking Buffer (ab126587) was used throughout.
