Target

  • Function
    Part of the host defense system of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. It is responsible for microbicidal activity against a wide range of organisms. In the stimulated PMN, MPO catalyzes the production of hypohalous acids, primarily hypochlorous acid in physiologic situations, and other toxic intermediates that greatly enhance PMN microbicidal activity.
  • Involvement in disease
    Defects in MPO are the cause of myeloperoxidase deficiency (MPD) [MIM:254600]. MPD is an autosomal recessive defect that results in disseminated candidiasis.

Anti-Myeloperoxidase antibody images

  • ab9535 staining Myeloperoxidase in paraffin-embedded rat tissue sections by IHC-P (formaldehyde-fixed paraffin-embedded Immunohistochemistry). Tissue was fixed with formaldehyde and blocked with 20% serum for 1 hour at 24°C; antigen retrieval was by heat mediation in citrate buffer (pH6). Samples were incubated with primary antibody (1/50 in milken) for 1 hour ate 24°C. A Biotin-conjugated goat anti rabbt polyclonal (1/500) was used as secondary antibody.
