Properties

Applications

Our Abpromise guarantee covers the use of ab55978 in the following tested applications.

The application notes include recommended starting dilutions; optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

Application Abreviews Notes
WB Use a concentration of 1.25 µg/ml. Detects a band of approximately 32 kDa (predicted molecular weight: 32 kDa). Good results were obtained when blocked with 5% non-fat dry milk in 0.05% PBS-T.
IHC-P Use at an assay dependent concentration.

Target

  • FunctionPossible transcriptional coregulator. May contribute to the regulation of cellular processes via its interaction with BCL3. May be required for efficient terminal myeloid maturation of hematopoietic cells. May play a role in the regulation of cell migration. May promote apoptosis when overexpressed. Has quercetin 2,3-dioxygenase activity (in vitro).
  • Tissue specificityHighly expressed in a subset of melanomas. Detected at very low levels in most tissues (at protein level). Expressed in all tissues, with highest level of expression in heart and liver.
  • PathwayFlavonoid metabolism; quercetin degradation.
  • Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the pirin family.
  • Cellular localizationNucleus. Cytoplasm. Predominantly localized in dot-like subnuclear structures. Cytoplasmic localization of PIR seems to positively correlate with melanoma progression.
