  • RelevanceADRB1 belongs to a prototypic family of guanine nucleotide binding regulatory protein-coupled receptors that mediate the physiological effects of the hormone epinephrine and the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. Specific polymorphisms in ADRB1 have been shown to affect the resting heart rate and can be involved in heart failure. ADRB1 Gly389 is a common polymorphic variant of ADRB1. Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) are involved as modulators or transducers in various transmembrane signaling systems. The Gs protein is involved in hormonal regulation of adenylate cyclase: it activates the cyclase in response to beta-adrenergic stimuli. G-protein Alpha S Short is the short splice variant of the alpha subunit of the heterotrimeric G protein Gs.
