      The grouping of Hemolytic streptococcus into 20 groups from A to V excluding I and J has been made according to the serological differences of C-polysaccharides possessed by the organism. The group A streptococcus bacterium (Streptococcus pyogenes, or GAS) is a form of ß-hemolytic Streptococcus bacteria responsible for most cases of streptococcal illness. Other types (B, C and G) also have human-pathogenicity and are considered to be epidemiologically important. Several virulence factors contribute to the pathogenesis of group A streptococcus bacterium, such as M protein, hemolysins, and extracellular enzymes.
