RelevanceThe TCRgamma alternate reading frame protein (TARP) gene is embedded in the TCR gamma locus and its transcript originates within an intron just upstream of the J gamma 1.2 segment. TARP, which is 58 amino acids and 7 kDa in size, is localized to the mitochondria and expressed exclusively in normal prostate, and in prostate and breast cancers. Furthermore, the expression of TARP is regulated by androgen in cell lines. There are two different isoforms.
