Target

  • Relevance
Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a member of the Vibrio genus, is a curved, rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacterium found in brackish saltwater, which, when ingested, causes gastrointestinal illness in humans. Vibrio parahaemolyticus is oxidase positive, facultatively aerobic, does not form spores and is motile, with a single, polar flagellum. The most commkon route of infection with Vibrio parahaemolyticus is by eating raw or undercooked shellfish, particularly oysters. Less commonly, this organism can cause an infection in the skin when an open wound is exposed to warm seawater.
