    Defects in ZNF81 are the cause of mental retardation X-linked type 45 (MRX45) [MIM:300498]. Mental retardation is characterized by significantly sub-average general intellectual functioning associated with impairments in adaptative behavior and manifested during the developmental period. Non-syndromic mental retardation patients do not manifest other clinical signs.
    Note=A chromosomal aberration involving ZNF81 is found in a severe mental retardation patient. Translocation t(X;9)(p11.23;q34.3).
