    This is one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. This receptor mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. This receptor is involved in tracheal smooth muscle contraction, bronchoconstriction, and control of aldosterone production.

Answer

I can confirm that this antibody already contains a cryoprotectant, sucrose. It will therefore not require any addition of glycerol or other preservative before refreezing.

We do recommend to avoid freeze thaw cycles. If the customer is not going to use all the antibody in one experiment, they can aliquot and refreeze the antibody as soon as possible, so that no further freeze thawing is required.

I would suggest that one extra freeze thaw cycle shouldn't cause significant damage to the antibody, although we cannot guarantee this. However, freeze thawing should be avoided where possible and it is also worth considering that this antibody has been stored for one year now.

Please note that our guarantee is for 6 months after purchase.

Indeed, with corresponding antibody I meant ab16028.

The anti-5HT2A Receptor ab85496 may or may not detect the peptide ab16195, although to our knowledge this has not been tested yet.

The ab16195 peptide was derived from the N-terminus of the rat 5HT2A Receptor.

The antibody ab85496 detects an epitope within the peptide 'DILCEENTSLSSTTNSLMQLNDDTRLYSNDFNSGEANTSDAFNWTVDSEN' which is from the N-terminus of the human 5HT2A Receptor

The alignment of these sequences (see below) reveals that the corresponding sequences are quite similar. However, the exact epitope of ab85496 has not been mapped and we therefore do not know if the antibody would bind the corresponding region. Thus, ab85496 would detect ab16195 only if its epitope overlaps with the peptide (ab16195).

Unfortunately, the anti-5HT2A Receptor ab102703 would not detect the peptide ab16195 as the antibody was generated against a peptide derived from the C-terminus of the human 5HT2A.
