Function
Transporter involved in macrophage lipid homeostasis. Is an active component of the macrophage lipid export complex. Could also be involved in intracellular lipid transport processes. The role in cellular lipid homeostasis may not be limited to macrophages. -
Tissue specificity
Expressed in several tissues. Expressed in macrophages; expression is increased in macrophages from patients with Tangier disease. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the ABC transporter superfamily. ABCG family. Eye pigment precursor importer (TC 3.A.1.204) subfamily.
Contains 1 ABC transmembrane type-2 domain.
Contains 1 ABC transporter domain. -
Cellular localization
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Golgi apparatus membrane. Predominantly localized in the intracellular compartments mainly associated with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi membranes. - Information by UniProt

ab52617 staining ABCG1 in HUVEC (Human umbilical vein endothelial cell line) cells by ICC/IF (Immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence). Cells were fixed with 4% Paraformaldehyde and permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100. Samples were incubated with primary antibody at a dilution of 1/100. A goat anti rabbit IgG (Alexa Fluor® 488) (ab150077) was used as the secondary antibody at a dilution of 1/1000. ab195889 was used as a counterstain for primary antibody ab52617 at 1/200. DAPI was used as a nuclear counterstain and PBS as a negative control.
