Target

  • Function

Acts as all-trans-retinaldehyde reductase. Can efficiently reduce aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes, and is less active on hexoses (in vitro). May be responsible for detoxification of reactive aldehydes in the digested food before the nutrients are passed on to other organs.
  • Tissue specificity

Found in many tissues. Highly expressed in small intestine, colon and adrenal gland.
  • Sequence similarities

Belongs to the aldo/keto reductase family.
  • Cellular localization

Lysosome. Secreted. Secreted through a lysosome-mediated non-classical pathway.
  • Target information above from: UniProt accession O60218 The UniProt Consortium

    Question

    Dear all,

I want to purchase AKR1B1 and AKR1B10 antibodies. I have allready selected them on your webside, but then I blasted both proteins and I found thet they have 70.6% identity and 91.1% similarity. Do you think they are similar enough for the crossreactivity of the antibodies? Have you tested them with recombinant proteins to prove that AKR1B1 antibodies do not detect AKR1B10 protein and vice versa?
I wanted to select antibodies: https://www.abcam.com/Aldose-reductase-antibody-ab62795.html and https://www.abcam.com/AKR1B10-antibody-ab96417.html. Would it be better to select monoclonal antibodies?

I will wait for your responce before I place my order.

    Regards,

    Answer

    Thank you for your inquiry.
I was in contact with the lab and unfortunately, we did not experimentally test if there is a cross reaction of the antibody to the other proteins.

In general, we do not expect any cross reactivity if the homology (identity)is below 85%.

Since the immunogen of both antibodies are short peptide, monoclonal antibodies will not be advantageous in this case.

I am sorryI could not be of more help and hope this information is nevertheless helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me again with any further questions.
