Target

  • Function

Cadherins are calcium dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. This cadherin may play a important role in endothelial cell biology through control of the cohesion and organization of the intercellular junctions. It associates with alpha-catenin forming a link to the cytoskeleton.
  • Tissue specificity

    Endothelial tissues and brain.
  • Sequence similarities

    Contains 5 cadherin domains.
  • Post-translational
    modifications

Phosphorylated on tyrosine residues by KDR/VEGFR-2. Dephosphorylated by PTPRB.
  • Cellular localization

Cell junction. Cell membrane. Found at cell-cell boundaries and probably at cell-matrix boundaries.

ab225442 staining VE Cadherin in bEnd.3 cells. The cells were fixed with 4% formaldehyde (10 min), permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 for 5 minutes and then blocked with 1% BSA/10% normal goat serum/0.3M glycine in 0.1% PBS-Tween for 1h. The cells were then incubated overnight at +4°C with ab225442 at 1/50 dilution (shown in red) and ab195887, Mouse monoclonal to alpha Tubulin (Alexa Fluor® 488), at 1/250 dilution (shown in green). Nuclear DNA was labelled with DAPI (shown in blue).

Image was taken with a confocal microscope (Leica-Microsystems, TCS SP8).
