Specificity
This antibody reacts with extracellular class III epitope on CD34 (Mucosialin), a 110-115 kDa monomeric transmembrane phosphoglycoprotein expressed on hematopoietic progenitors cells and on the most pluripotential stem cells; it is gradually lost on progenitor cells. The antibody 4H11[APG] completely blocks binding of class II antibody QBEnd10 and class III antibodies BIRMA K3 and 8G12 on KG1a cell line.

Function
Possible adhesion molecule with a role in early hematopoiesis by mediating the attachment of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or directly to stromal cells. Could act as a scaffold for the attachment of lineage specific glycans, allowing stem cells to bind to lectins expressed by stromal cells or other marrow components. Presents carbohydrate ligands to selectins. -
Tissue specificity
Selectively expressed on hematopoietic progenitor cells and the small vessel endothelium of a variety of tissues. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the CD34 family. -
Developmental stage
On early hematopoietic progenitor cells. -
Post-translational
modificationsHighly glycosylated.
Phosphorylated on serine residues by PKC. -
Cellular localization
Membrane. - Information by UniProt
