  • Product name

    Bacitracin, Peptide antibiotic
  • Description

    Peptide antibiotic
  • Alternative names

    • Baciim
  • Biological description

Potent antibiotic. Mixture of related cyclic polypeptides produced by organisms of the licheniformis group of Bacillus subtilis var Tracy, which disrupts gram positive and some gram negative bacteria by interfering with cell wall and peptidoglycan synthesis. Acts bactericidally by binding to isoprenyl pyrophosphate, the lipid carrier that transfers N-acetylmuramyl-N-acetylglucosamyl-amino acid cell wall building blocks across the cytoplasmic membrane. Inhibits enzymatic dephosphorylation of C55-isoprenyl pyrophosphate.
