Ab248406 is the carrier-free version of ab131285. This format is designed for use in antibody labeling, including fluorochromes, metal isotopes, oligonucleotides, enzymes.
Our carrier-free formats are supplied in a buffer free of BSA, sodium azide and glycerol for higher conjugation efficiency.
Use our conjugation kits for antibody conjugates that are ready-to-use in as little as 20 minutes with <1 minute hands-on-time and 100% antibody recovery: available for fluorescent dyes, HRP, biotin and gold.
ab248406 is compatible with the Maxpar® Antibody Labeling Kit from Fluidigm.
Maxpar® is a trademark of Fluidigm Canada Inc.
This product is a recombinant monoclonal antibody, which offers several advantages including:
- - High batch-to-batch consistency and reproducibility
- - Improved sensitivity and specificity
- - Long-term security of supply
- - Animal-free production
Our RabMAb® technology is a patented hybridoma-based technology for making rabbit monoclonal antibodies. For details on our patents, please refer to RabMAb® patents.

Our Abpromise guarantee covers the use of ab248406 in the following tested applications.
The application notes include recommended starting dilutions; optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.
|WB||Use at an assay dependent concentration. Predicted molecular weight: 113 kDa.|
|IHC-P||Use at an assay dependent concentration. Perform heat mediated antigen retrieval with citrate buffer pH 6 before commencing with IHC staining protocol.|
FunctionContactins mediate cell surface interactions during nervous system development. Has some neurite outgrowth-promoting activity. May be involved in synaptogenesis.
Tissue specificityMainly expressed in brain. Highly expressed in cerebellum and weakly expressed in corpus callosum, caudate nucleus, amygdala and spinal cord. Also expressed in testis, pancreas, thyroid, uterus, small intestine and kidney. Not expressed in skeletal muscle. Isoform 2 is weakly expressed in cerebral cortex.
Involvement in diseaseA chromosomal aberration involving CNTN4 has been found in a boy with characteristic physical features of 3p deletion syndrome (3PDS). Translocation t(3;10)(p26;q26). 3PDS is a rare contiguous gene disorder involving the loss of the telomeric portion of the short arm of chromosome 3 and characterized by developmental delay, growth retardation, and dysmorphic features.
Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. Contactin family.
Contains 4 fibronectin type-III domains.
Contains 6 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains.
Cellular localizationCell membrane. Secreted.
