  • Function

Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells.
  • Tissue specificity

    Found in plasma.
  • Sequence similarities

    Belongs to the pentaxin family.
    Contains 1 pentaxin domain.
  • Cellular localization

  • IHC image of C Reactive Protein staining in Human normal liver formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section, performed on a Leica BondTM system using the standard protocol F. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH6, epitope retrieval solution 1) for 20 mins. The section was then incubated with ab31156, 5µg/ml, for 15 mins at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.

For other IHC staining systems (automated and non-automated) customers should optimize variable parameters such as antigen retrieval conditions, primary antibody concentration and antibody incubation times.

Customer reviews and Q&As

Thank you for your enquiry.

ab80205 is a recombinant fragment, corresponding to N terminal amino acids 21-130 of Human C Reactive Protein, fused to a His tag, 17kDa (SwissProt ID P02741) so it is a not a full length protein.

Furthermore, ab31156 recognizes the full length C Reactive Protein (endogenously expressed) which has the expected band size at around 25 kDa. There may be differences in band size between full length vs fragment; recombinant vs endogenous protein.

I hope this helps and if I can assist further, please do not hesitate to contact me.
