  • Function
    Integrin alpha-L/beta-2 is a receptor for ICAM1, ICAM2, ICAM3 and ICAM4. Integrins alpha-M/beta-2 and alpha-X/beta-2 are receptors for the iC3b fragment of the third complement component and for fibrinogen. Integrin alpha-X/beta-2 recognizes the sequence G-P-R in fibrinogen alpha-chain. Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 recognizes P1 and P2 peptides of fibrinogen gamma chain. Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 is also a receptor for factor X. Integrin alpha-D/beta-2 is a receptor for ICAM3 and VCAM1.
  • Involvement in disease
    Defects in ITGB2 are the cause of leukocyte adhesion deficiency type 1 (LAD1) [MIM:116920]. LAD1 patients have recurrent bacterial infections and their leukocytes are deficient in a wide range of adhesion-dependent functions.

    Contains 1 VWFA domain.
  • Post-translational
    Both Ser-745 and Ser-756 become phosphorylated when T-cells are exposed to phorbol esters. Phosphorylation on Thr-758 (but not on Ser-756) allows interaction with 14-3-3 proteins.

  • Flow cytometry analysis of CD18 in mouse splenocytes (green) compared to an isotype control (blue). Human blood was collected, combined with a hydrophilic polysaccharide, centrifuged, transferred to a conical tube and washed with PBS. 50 ul of cell solution was added to each tube at a dilution of 2x10^7 cells/ml, followed by the addition of 50 ul of isotype control and primary antibody (ab119347) at a dilution of 2 ug/test. Cells were incubated for 30 min at 4ºC and washed with a cell buffer, followed by incubation with a DyLight 488-conjugated secondary antibody for 30 min at 4ºC in the dark. FACS analysis was performed using 400 ul of cell buffer.

To produce the anti-CD11b https://www.abcam.com/ab8878, spleen cells from a B10 mouse were injected into a rat.The mouse spleen cells were enriched for T-lymphocytes prior to injection. Unfortunately the epitope has not been mapped.

The immunogen of the anti-CD18 https://www.abcam.com/ab119347 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the N-terminal residues 27-41 (KFKVSSCRECIESGP) of human CD18, extracellular region.

The immunogen of the anti-CD18 https://www.abcam.com/ab119830 is Mouse cytotoxic T cell glycoproteins. Unfortunately the epitope has not been mapped.
