Target

  • Relevance
CGRP is present in C-cells of the thyroid and in central and peripheral nerves. CGRP has several important physiologic roles: it is a potent vasodilator, and can affect the force and rate of heart beat; it can modulate acetylcholine receptor function at the neuromuscular junction; it has been demonstrated to block tolerance to morphine; and it can modulate antigen presentation in Langerhans cells in the skin. Despite these important physiologic functions, therapeutic strategies using CGRP have been impeded due to the lack of a cloned CGRP receptor with which ligands could be developed.

Customer reviews and Q&As

Answer

Antibody ab36001 is a better choice for IHC than ab189786, if you have an anti-goat secondary antibody. If not, I have suggestions below.

https://www.abcam.com/index.html?datasheet=36001 (or use the following: https://www.abcam.com/index.html?datasheet=36001).

There is much more data for ab36001 and it is raised against an amino acid sequence from mature rat CGRP that is 87% conserved in pig CGRP. (13 of the 15 amino acids are identical). Antibody ab189786, on the other hand, is raised against the full-length human precursor to CGRP, and shares 84% identity with the mature pig CGRP (http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P30880). A portion of this polyclonal antibody will very likely react with propeptide sequences in addition to mature CGRP, though this has not been confirmed.

For an anti-goat secondary antibody, I suggest ab97105 or ab97210, assuming you want to detect with an HRP reaction.
