ab35658 was used in a simple indirect ELISA with 400 ng of Chloramphenicol-BSA per well. The titres detailed above were elucidated using an HRP labelled secondary antibody/TMB detection system.
When tested by polarisation fluoroimmunoassay, the final titre dilution was found to be 0.5 ml tracer + 0.5 ml diluted antibody. Tracer is aromatic amino derivative of chloramphenicol labelled by reaction with fluorescein isothiocyanate (10 nmol/L).
Not yet tested in other applications.

RelevanceChloramphenicol is an antibiotic that was derived from the bacterium Streptomyces venezuelae. It was the first antibiotic to be manufactured synthetically on a large scale. Chloramphenicol is effective against a wide variety of microorganisms, but due to serious side effects (eg damage to the bone marrow) in humans, it is usually reserved for the treatment of serious and life threatening infections (eg typhoid fever). It is also used in eye drops or ointment to treat bacterial conjunctivitis.
