    CNTN5 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Contactins mediate cell surface interactions during the development of the nervous system. CNTN5 has some neurite outgrowth-promoting activity in the cerebral cortical neurons but not in hippocampal neurons and is most likely involved in neuronal activity in the auditory system.
