Green fluorescent protein (GFP)

Related

  • Browse by target

Green fluorescent protein (GFP) is a β-barrel-shaped protein1 consisting of 238 amino acids and with a molecular weight of ~27kDa. GFP is isolated from the crystal jellyfish Aequorea victoria, and its role is to transduce the blue chemiluminescence of the protein aequorin into green fluorescent light via energy transfer2. GFP is excited at a wavelength of 488nm and has an emission peak at ~507nm. However, high-resolution crystal structures of GFP allow scientists to manipulate its protein structure and engineer color variants that emit at different wavelengths3,4.

    Applications

Our range of anti-GFP antibodies, proteins, and ELISA kits are validated for a variety of key applications including western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, ELISA, and immunoprecipitation.

Immunohistochemistry (Free Floating) analysis of mouse brain tissue sections labeling GFP with ab290. Tissue was fixed with 4% PFA, frozen 30 µm sections were blocked for 1 hour at room temperature with 10% normal goat serum + donkey anti-mouse IgG Fab fragments (0.1 mg/ml). Sections were incubated with the primary antibody at a dilution of 1/1000 in TBS + 0.25% Triton-X for 16 hours at 4°C. A Cy2®-conjugated donkey anti-rabbit IgG (H+L) at a dilution of 1/200 was used as the secondary antibody.

The image shows anti-NeuN (red), DAPI (blue), and anti-GFP staining of GFP-Cre (green, yellow with NeuN colocalization).

ab13970 staining mouse olfactory bulb tissue sections by IHC-Fr.

Sections were PFA fixed, permeabilized in 0.4% Triton-X and blocked with 5% serum for 2 hours at 25°C.  The primary antibody was diluted 1/1000 and incubated with the sample for 16 hours at 4°C.  An Alexa Fluor® 488 conjugated goat anti-chicken was used as the secondary antibody.
