  • General notes

The Life Science industry has been in the grips of a reproducibility crisis for a number of years. Abcam is leading the way in addressing the problem with our range of recombinant monoclonal antibodies and knockout edited cell lines for gold-standard validation.

One factor contributing to the crisis is the use of antibodies that are not suitable. This can lead to misleading results and the use of incorrect data informing project assumptions and direction. To help address this challenge, we have introduced an application and species grid on our primary antibody datasheets to make it easy to simplify identification of the right antibody for your needs.

Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes and blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were probed with a CREB polyclonal antibody (ab5803) in 3% BSA-PBS at a dilution of 1:200 and incubated overnight at 4ºC in a humidified chamber. Cells were washed with PBST and incubated with a DyLight-conjugated secondary antibody in PBS at room temperature in the dark. Actin was stained using Alexa Fluor 554 (red) and nuclei were stained with Hoechst or DAPI (blue). Images were taken at a magnification of 60x.

Question

Dear abcam, Would it be possible to receive free aliquots of your ab5803 and ab10564? My lab studies signal transduction pathways in aquatic animals (sharks, oysters, coral, etc), and are looking for commercial antibodies against CREB and P-CREB. If these antibodies work well with our samples we'd purchase them on a regular basis. thanks

Answer

Thank you for contacting us. Because we carry over 70,000 products, it isn't feasible for us to keep small sample sizes of our products.

We are happy to reassure our customers that all of our products are covered by our Abpromise, which guarantees that the product will work in the applications and species specified on the datasheet, or we will offer a replacement, credit, or refund within 6 months of purchase.

If the product is to be used in an untested species or application, you may be eligible for our testing discount program if the antibody has not yet been purchased. Please contact our Scientific Support team by replying to this email prior to purchase for more information.

Otherwise, we like to encourage all of our customers to submit an Abreview via the online product datasheet. We always appreciate customer feedback, whether positive or negative, and we make all product information available to researchers. Plus, each Abreview earns Abpoints that can be used for discounts on future purchases or rewards such as Amazon.com gift certificates.

Question

Recently, I bought 5 antibodies from abcam, which are: 1 x GABARAPL2 antibody(ab15858) 1 x CREB antibody (ab5803) 1 x Leptin Receptor antibody (ab7211) 1 x GABARAP antibody (ab1133) 1 x Chicken IgY (H&L) antibody (ab6753) The order reference number is 66504 (PON: L-15) I receive them yesterday and 3 of them were OK, but I think that there was some kind of trouble with two of them, GABARAPL2 antibody (ab15858) and GABARAP antibody (ab1133). I was expected to receive 50 uL of GABARAPL2 antibody and I only received 40 uL. In the case of GABARAP antibody I was expected to recieve 100 uL and I have only received 40 uL. In this case, the recomended dilution for this antibody is 1:500, so I probably won't be able to establish the optimal assay conditions for that antibody with the supplied amount of it. I write you to ask for a solution for this event, because I have paid for a determined amount of antibody and I have received less than the half.
