FunctionCore component of multiple SCF-like ECS (Elongin-Cullin 2/5-SOCS-box protein) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complexes, which mediate the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins. As a scaffold protein may contribute to catalysis through positioning of the substrate and the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme. The functional specificity of the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex depends on the variable substrate recognition component. ECS(SOCS1) seems to direct ubiquitination of JAK2. Seems to be involved in proteosomal degradation of p53/TP53 stimulated by adenovirus E1B-55 kDa protein. May form a cell surface vasopressin receptor.

Cullin 5/CUL-5 was immunoprecipitated from 1mg of HeLa (Human epithelial cell line from cervix adenocarcinoma) whole cell lysate with ab264284 at 10 µg/mg lysate. Western blot was performed from the immunoprecipitate using ab264284 at 1 µg/ml.
Lane 1: ab264284 IP in HeLa whole cell lysate.
Lane 2: Control IgG.
Exposure time: 10 secs.
Immunohistochemical analysis of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded human ovarian carcinoma tissue labeling Cullin 5/CUL-5 with ab264284 at 1/1,000 dilution. Detection: DAB.
Epitope retrieval with citrate buffer pH 6.0 is recommended for FFPE tissue sections.
