    • Function

      Transports L-glutamate and also L- and D-aspartate. Essential for terminating the postsynaptic action of glutamate by rapidly removing released glutamate from the synaptic cleft. Acts as a symport by cotransporting sodium.

      Highly expressed in cerebellum, but also found in frontal cortex, hippocampus and basal ganglia.
    • Involvement in disease

      Defects in SLC1A3 are the cause of episodic ataxia type 6 (EA6) [MIM:612656]. EA6 is characterized by episodic ataxia, seizures, migraine and alternating hemiplegia.

      why is the actual band size different from the predicted?

    • ICC/IF image of ab41751 stained PC12 cells. The cells were 100% methanol fixed (5 min) and then incubated in 1%BSA / 10% normal goat serum / 0.3M glycine in 0.1% PBS-Tween for 1h to permeabilise the cells and block non-specific protein-protein interactions. The cells were then incubated with the antibody (ab41751, 5µg/ml) overnight at +4°C. The secondary antibody (green) was Alexa Fluor® 488 goat anti-rabbit IgG (H+L) used at a 1/1000 dilution for 1h. Alexa Fluor® 594 WGA was used to label plasma membranes (red) at a 1/200 dilution for 1h. DAPI was used to stain the cell nuclei (blue) at a concentration of 1.43µM. This antibody also gave a positive result in 4% PFA fixed (10 min) PC12 cells at 5µg/ml.

    I have checked the protein sequence homology between mouse, human and drosophila. Unfortunately none of our antibody's immunogen falls in the homologous sequence so we unfortunately can not suggest the cross reactivity of our current anti EAAT1 antibodies with drosophila.

    Thank you for your inquiry.
    I cannot recommend ab41751 since this antibody was not experimentally tested to work with rat and mouse yet and we therefore cannot guarantee this.
    Both antibodies have not been tested in in-cell WB and are therefore not guaranteed for it.
    But I can confirm that ab416 is tested and guaranteed for human, mouse and rat. It is also tested and guaranteed for WB and ICC, which according to my information is close to the in-cell WB procedure:
    In-cell WB: "A quantitative immunofluorescent assay for simultaneous analysis of two different proteins in fixed cultured cells"
