Target

  • Function

    Transports L-glutamate and also L- and D-aspartate. Essential for terminating the postsynaptic action of glutamate by rapidly removing released glutamate from the synaptic cleft. Acts as a symport by cotransporting sodium. Negatively regulated by ARL6IP5.
  • Tissue specificity

    Expressed in all tissues tested including liver, muscle, testis, ovary, retinoblastoma cell line, neurons and brain (in which there was dense expression in substantia nigra, red nucleus, hippocampus and in cerebral cortical layers).

  • Western blot detection of EAAT3 in Rat brain membrane tissues using ab131429 at 1:1000 dilution.
  • ab131429 staining EAAT3 in human tendon tissue sections by Immunohistochemistry (IHC-P - paraformaldehyde-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections). Tissue was fixed with formaldehyde and blocked with peroxidase blocking buffer for 5 minutes at room temperature; antigen retrieval was by heat mediation. Samples were incubated with primary antibody (1/200) for 30 minutes.

    The nuclear counter stain is DAPI (blue). F-actin is stained with Texas Red-Phalloidin (red).
