Product details

The alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitor Screening Kit (Colorimetric) ab284520 is a convenient assay for the screening/characterizing Alpha-Glucosidase inhibitors.

How the assay works
The alpha-Glucosidase assay uses the ability of an active Alpha-Glucosidase to cleave a synthetic substrate thus, releasing a chromophore (OD: 410 nm). In the presence of an Alpha-Glucosidase specific inhibitor, the enzymatic activity is greatly reduced which is detected by a decrease of absorbance readings.

Alpha-Glucosidase assay summary
- Add samples and standards to wells
- Add reaction mix and incubate
- Analyze with microplate reader at OD: 410 nm in kinetic mode for 60 min at room temperature.

Other Notes
This product was previously called K938 Biovision a-Glucosidase Inhibitor Screening Kit (Colorimetric). Biovision was acquired by Abcam in 2021.

Target data

Essential for the degradation of glycogen in lysosomes (PubMed : 14695532, PubMed : 18429042, PubMed : 1856189, PubMed : 7717400). Has highest activity on alpha-1,4-linked glycosidic linkages, but can also hydrolyze alpha-1,6-linked glucans (PubMed : 29061980).
