Functional Studies - Citrulline Assay Kit (Fluorometric) (AB273309)
Estimations of Citrulline in different samples.
Estimations of Citrulline in 2 human serum samples (10 and 40 μl in each well respectively) and watermelon juice (4 μl of 100X dilution). Citrulline concentrations were 33.50 μM and 9.11 μM in human serum respectively and 10.81 mM in watermelon juice.

Product details
Citrulline Assay Kit (Fluorometric) (ab273309) provides a rapid, specific, and easy method for the measurement of total Citrulline concentrations in a wide variety of samples.
In this enzymatic assay, Citrulline is converted into a series of intermediates, which further reacts with a probe producing a stable fluorescent signal (Ex/Em = 535/587 nm). The kit is simple, easy to perform, sensitive and is high throughput adaptable.
It can detect as low as 2 μM Citrulline in biological samples.
This product is manufactured by BioVision, an Abcam company and was previously called K2002 Citrulline Fluorometric Assay Kit. K2002-100 is the same size as the 100 test size of ab273309.

Biological function summary
Citrulline plays a significant part in the body's nitrogen cycle and enhances the production of nitric oxide a vital signaling molecule. Citrulline participates in converting ammonia a byproduct from amino acid breakdown into urea in the liver which the body can then excrete. It does not belong to a complex but acts as a precursor to the amino acid arginine enhancing its levels and promoting vasodilation. Citrulline effects also extend to influencing muscle metabolism and cellular energy production.
Pathways
Citrulline participates in the urea cycle and nitric oxide synthesis pathway. It provides a link between ammonia detoxification and the synthesis of arginine. This link enhances nitric oxide availability which is essential for regulating vascular homeostasis and blood pressure. Additionally citrulline relates to the arginine biosynthesis pathway where it aids the conversion to arginine mediated by enzymes such as argininosuccinate synthetase and argininosuccinate lyase. These interactions with enzymes highlight its integration into metabolic pathways central to the organism’s homeostasis.
