For even greater physiological relevance, co-culture protocols are available for use with Cortical neurons. Co-culture with Cortical astrocytes can be performed with Cortical Glutamatergic Neurons (ab315366), Cortical GABAergic Neurons (ab315368), or a combination of both in varying ratios.

Human Cortical Astrocytes are derived from normal control iPSC line WC-30. BrainXell Human Cortical Astrocytes express key astrocyte markers GFAP and S100β at >70% and exhibit mature process-bearing morphologies as demonstrated by ICC labelling. Cortical Astrocytes uptake glutamate and exhibit calcium waves. Co-culturing the cortical astrocytes with neurons can enhance and accelerate certain aspects of neuronal activity, including network bursts, as demonstrated by multi-electrode array (MEA).

Vials of Cortical Astrocytes are delivered with two supplements which are designed to facilitate the maturation and health of the cultures. BrainFast Astro is a seeding supplement which promotes cell survival at thaw and completes the differentiation process to astrocytes. BrainFast SK enhances the purity of the culture.
