Product details

The Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 Activity Assay Kit is a two-step colorimetric assay. In the first step, samples are incubated with a known amount of tPA thereby allowing PAI-1 and tPA to form an inactive complex. In the second step, the residual free tPA converts plasminogen to plasmin, which in turn hydrolyzes the plasmin chromogenic substrate thereby releasing pNA (chromophore). The absorbance of the released pNA is inversely proportional to the PAI-1 activity in the samples. The assay kit is simple, specific and can detect as low as 2 U/ml of PAI-1 activity in samples.

This product is manufactured by BioVision, an Abcam company and was previously called K2040 Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 Activity Assay Kit (C). K2040-100 is the same size as the 100 test size of ab283368.

Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), also known as endothelial plasminogen activator inhibitor, is a serine protease inhibitor that functions as the principal inhibitor of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase (uPA). PAI-1 is present in a number of tissues & cell types and is associated with various thrombotic and fibrinolytic complications. High level of PAI-1 activity is found in patients suffering from myocardial infarction, hemolytic uremic syndrome or stroke whereas low levels of PAI-1 activity are associated with bleeding disorders. Additionally, PAI-1 is a prognosticator in various cancers.

Target data

Serine protease inhibitor. Inhibits TMPRSS7 (PubMed : 15853774). Is a primary inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator (PLAT) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (PLAU). As PLAT inhibitor, it is required for fibrinolysis down-regulation and is responsible for the controlled degradation of blood clots (PubMed : 17912461, PubMed : 8481516, PubMed : 9207454, PubMed : 21925150). As PLAU inhibitor, it is involved in the regulation of cell adhesion and spreading (PubMed : 9175705). Acts as a regulator of cell migration, independently of its role as protease inhibitor (PubMed : 15001579, PubMed : 9168821). It is required for stimulation of keratinocyte migration during cutaneous injury repair (PubMed : 18386027). It is involved in cellular and replicative senescence (PubMed : 16862142). Plays a role in alveolar type 2 cells senescence in the lung (By similarity). Is involved in the regulation of cementogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cells, and regulates odontoblast differentiation and dentin formation during odontogenesis (PubMed : 25808697, PubMed : 27046084).
