IPTG (Animal-free, Dioxane-free) (ab142072) induces β-galactosidase activity in many bacteria. Functions as a lac analog, IPTG induces β-galactosidase activity by binding to and inhibiting the lac repressor. Used in combination with X-gal for blue-white colony selection of recombinant bacteria. MW 238.3, Purity >99%.
