MW 379.47 g/mol. Lipid soluble, diazo dye for staining fats in plant and animal tissues. Member of the Sudan family of hydrophobic lipid-staining dyes. Sudan dyes are a group of lipid soluble dyes often called lysochromes. With the use of certain solvents, may also be used to stain some protein bound lipids in paraffin sections. Has also been used to stain suberin lamellae in plant tissues.
