REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.

Lysate preparation: Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10). This means that the protein of interest is denatured. If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.

User storage instructions: Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.

This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute, ERS Genomics Limited and Sigma-Aldrich Co. LLC, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the licenses and patents please refer to our limited use license and patent pages.

Supplementary information

GNG5 also known as Guanine Nucleotide-Binding Protein G(I)/G(S)/G(O) Subunit Gamma-5 plays a role in the function of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). It is a small protein subunit with a known mass of about 8 kDa. This protein is expressed in many tissues making it widely available for participation in various signaling pathways. The main function of GNG5 revolves around its association with the other G protein subunits in signal transduction where it is important in transmitting extracellular signals processed by receptors.
Biological function summary

GNG5 functions as part of the larger G protein complex. It interacts with G alpha and G beta subunits to form the complete heterotrimeric G protein essential for GPCR signal transduction. By facilitating GDP-GTP exchange in the G alpha component GNG5 helps in activating downstream signaling cascades that influence physiological functions. Its involvement in cellular communication highlights its importance in biological processes like sensory perception and hormone responses.

Pathways

GNG5 participates importantly in the G protein signaling pathway and the GPCR downstream pathway. During signal transduction GNG5 interacts with the G beta subunit to maintain the functional G protein state. This protein also has a relationship with other G proteins such as GNAI1 (Guanine Nucleotide Binding Protein Alpha Inhibiting Activity Polypeptide 1) reflecting its coordination in complex signaling pathways. These pathways are integral to key cellular responses and adaptability to external stimuli.

GNG5 has a connection to conditions like cancer and metabolic disorders. Aberrant expression or dysfunction of this protein could lead to disruptions in normal signaling contributing to oncogenic pathways. GNG5's interactions with other G proteins such as GNAS (Guanine Nucleotide Binding Protein Alpha Stimulating) highlight its involvement in disease-linked molecular mechanisms. Its role in these disorders makes it a potential target for therapeutic research.
