REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.

Lysate preparation: Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10). This means that the protein of interest is denatured. If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.

User storage instructions: Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.

This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute, ERS Genomics Limited and Sigma-Aldrich Co. LLC, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the licenses and patents please refer to our limited use license and patent pages.

Supplementary information

MZT1 also known as Mitotic Spindle Organizing Protein 1 functions in the assembly and organization of the mitotic spindle during cell division. MZT1 has a molecular mass of approximately 10 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues particularly in rapidly dividing cells due to its role in mitosis. MZT1 localizes mainly to the centrosomes which are critical for spindle formation and function during mitosis.
Biological function summary

The small MZT1 protein integrates into the core structure of the mitotic apparatus by being part of the γ-tubulin ring complex (γ-TuRC). This complex is important for microtubule nucleation at the centrosome. By ensuring proper organization of the microtubules MZT1 supports accurate chromosomal segregation and cell division. These functions make MZT1 significant in maintaining genomic stability during cell replication.

Pathways

Ensuring precise spindle organization and function involves MZT1 in the regulation of the cell cycle and mitotic checkpoint pathways. It connects with proteins such as γ-tubulin and other spindle-associated proteins to facilitate microtubule dynamics. These interactions place MZT1 firmly within pathways that oversee correct mitotic progression and check for errors during cell division preventing chromosomal instability.

Improper function or expression of MZT1 has connections with cancer and some chromosomal instability syndromes. Its association with key mitotic processes means that disruptions can lead to unregulated cell proliferation a hallmark of cancer. Altered interactions between MZT1 and the γ-tubulin complex can contribute to tumorigenesis highlighting its potential as a target for therapeutic approaches.
