REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.

Lysate preparation: Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10). This means that the protein of interest is denatured. If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.

User storage instructions: Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.

This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute and ERS Genomics Limited, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the limited use licenses and relevant patents please refer to our limited use license and patent pages.

Supplementary information

Rab-6 also known as Ras-related protein 6 acts as a GTPase involved in membrane trafficking. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 24 kDa. Researchers find Rab-6 expressed in various tissues with high levels in the brain and lungs. It localizes primarily to the Golgi apparatus where it participates in the regulation of intracellular transport.
Biological function summary

Rab-6 aids in the coordination of retrograde vesicle transport from the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum. Rab-6 functions as part of a complex with other proteins including dynactin and cytoplasmic dynein to facilitate these movements. Its role includes ensuring proper delivery and sorting of proteins within the cell which is essential for maintaining cellular organization and function.

Pathways

This protein is involved in the endocytosis and secretory pathways. In the endocytosis pathway Rab-6 interacts with proteins like Rab GDI and Rab escort protein to regulate vesicle transport. In the secretory pathway the protein ensures that cargo proteins transit correctly through the Golgi interacting with other Rab family members such as Rab-1 which also play parts in vesicle movement and secretion processes.

Rab-6 has been implicated in neurological disorders and certain cancers. For instance abnormalities in Rab-6 function have been linked to Alzheimer's disease where it associates with proteins like amyloid precursor protein affecting its processing. Additionally altered Rab-6 activity can contribute to cancer metastasis through interactions with metastasis-related proteins which influences cell migration and invasion mechanisms.
