Product details
Canine Resistin ELISA Kit (ab273177) is an in-vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Canine Resistin in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants.
This assay employs an antibody specific for Canine Resistin coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and Canine Resistin present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and biotinylated anti-Canine Resistin antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Canine Resistin bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Biological function summary
Resistin affects glucose homeostasis and has been shown to modulate insulin resistance. It does not function as part of a larger protein complex but instead acts through specific receptors on cell surfaces. Resistin influences several cellular processes including energy balance and the modulation of inflammatory responses.
Pathways
Several processes contribute to the detailed function of resistin. It is involved in the insulin signaling pathway and the inflammatory pathway. Resistin interacts with proteins and receptors like TLR4 which have key roles in inflammatory response signaling and metabolic regulation. These interactions can disrupt insulin signaling and glucose uptake in many cell types.
