Has a role in the formation and organization of the extracellular matrix. In the eye, it functions as a mediator of dexamethasone-induced matrix deposition in the trabecular meshwork, the tissue responsible for the outflow of the ocular aqueous humor and for the maintenance of intraocular pressure (PubMed:21199193). Is a negative regulator of angiogenesis in the cornea, and plays a major role in maintaining corneal avascularity and transparency (PubMed:25622036).

Human ANGPTL7 ELISA kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human ANGPTL7 in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatants. This assay employs an antibody specific for human ANGPTL7 coated on a 96-well plate.
The ANGPTL7 protein also known as Angiopoietin-like 7 plays a role in mechanistic processes. It has a molecular mass of about 45 kDa. ANGPTL7 is expressed primarily in the cornea and trabecular meshwork of the eye but it is also found in other tissues like the liver and heart. This protein is part of the larger angiopoietin-like protein family which is involved in numerous functions related to angiogenesis and metabolism.
ANGPTL7 participates in the regulation of extracellular matrix composition and collagen deposition affecting tissue remodeling. It does not form a known complex with other molecules but influences the structural integrity of tissues through its regulatory actions. ANGPTL7 potentially interacts with cellular receptors to mediate these effects contributing to maintenance and repair of tissue structures.
ANGPTL7 interacts within the framework of the TGF-beta signaling pathway influencing cellular growth and differentiation. Another important pathway involving ANGPTL7 is the Wnt signaling cascade which is important for various developmental processes. In these pathways ANGPTL7 has functional interactions with proteins such as TGF-beta and beta-catenin modulating their activity and impact on cellular functions.
ANGPTL7 has connections to ocular diseases like glaucoma where its expression levels alter the outflow facility of aqueous humor. It also relates to fibrosis since the regulation of collagen deposition is an important factor. The involvement of ANGPTL7 in these conditions links it with proteins such as myocilin in glaucoma and TIMP-1 in fibrosis highlighting its role in pathological tissue remodeling.
