Product details

Human beta Nerve Growth Factor ELISA Kit ab193760 is a rapid single-wash 90-min Sandwich ELISA to measure Human beta Nerve Growth Factor in cell culture supernatant, citrate plasma, EDTA plasma, heparin plasma, serum, urine. This SimpleStep sensitivity is 6 pg/mL.

How the assay works

Human beta Nerve Growth Factor SimpleStep ELISA®employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details.

Assay Specificity

Our SimpleStep ELISA® kits use recombinant monoclonal antibodies rigorously validated to ensure the highest level of consistency and reproducibility, improved sensitivity and specificity and ease of scalability and security of supply.
Please refer to our protocol booklet for more details.

Beta Nerve Growth Factor is involved in the development of maintenance of the sympathetic and sensory nervous systems. As a ligand for NTRK1 and NGFR receptors, it's involved in cell signaling cascades that regulate neuronal proliferation, differentiation, and survival.

Beta Nerve Growth Factor is also involved in modulation of the immune system and in the trauma response, and has been implicated in a variety of responses including memory and mental health.

Supplementary information

Beta nerve growth factor (beta-NGF) is a significant protein that functions in the development and maintenance of the nervous system. It is also known as NGF or NGFB and has a molecular mass of around 26 kDa. This protein is highly expressed in a wide range of tissues including the brain skin and various glands. Researchers often use assays like growth factor assays and NGF ELISA kits to measure beta-NGF levels given its importance in several physiological processes.
Biological function summary

Beta nerve growth factor plays an important role in the growth survival and differentiation of neurons. As a member of the neurotrophin family it binds to receptors like TrkA and p75NTR on the surface of nerve cells. This binding activity helps to promote neuronal health and function especially in the peripheral and central nervous systems. While beta-NGF traditionally acts independently it also interacts with other signaling molecules to trigger cascades that support cell survival and neural connections.

Pathways

Beta-NGF prominently participates in the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways. These pathways are essential for transmitting signals from the cell surface to the DNA in the nucleus therefore regulating gene expression linked to cell growth and survival. In these contexts beta-NGF works closely with proteins like Akt and ERK enhancing neuron resilience and promoting restorative mechanisms across the nervous system.

Beta nerve growth factor has been connected to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease and chronic pain conditions. Alterations in beta-NGF expression or signaling can impact neuronal survival contributing to the progression of these disorders. In Alzheimer's disease for example changes in NGF interactions with proteins like amyloid-beta and tau may exacerbate neurodegeneration. Similarly in pain syndromes disruptions in beta-NGF signaling can influence pain perception through pathways involving other neurotrophic factors.

Target data

Nerve growth factor is important for the development and maintenance of the sympathetic and sensory nervous systems (PubMed : 14976160, PubMed : 20978020). Extracellular ligand for the NTRK1 and NGFR receptors, activates cellular signaling cascades to regulate neuronal proliferation, differentiation and survival (Probable) (PubMed : 20978020). The immature NGF precursor (proNGF) functions as a ligand for the heterodimeric receptor formed by SORCS2 and NGFR, and activates cellular signaling cascades that lead to inactivation of RAC1 and/or RAC2, reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and neuronal growth cone collapse. In contrast to mature NGF, the precursor form (proNGF) promotes neuronal apoptosis (in vitro) (By similarity). Inhibits metalloproteinase-dependent proteolysis of platelet glycoprotein VI (PubMed : 20164177). Binds lysophosphatidylinositol and lysophosphatidylserine between the two chains of the homodimer. The lipid-bound form promotes histamine relase from mast cells, contrary to the lipid-free form (By similarity).
